Who We Are
Dedicated to the celebration of spiritual and metaphysical diversity, here at Downtown Tarot Company we seek to provide a safe space for those exploring their spiritual path through our services, products, and community.
Downtown Tarot Company was originally founded by Alexandria D’Ascenzo and her husband, Andrew, in 2017 under the name Detroit Tarot Company. Alexandria began her career as the Detroit Tarot Reader in 1999, performing readings at events in and around Detroit. In 2007 Alexandria and Andrew created an entertainment agency focused on unique performances such as circus acts, fire arts, and psychic readings. The tarot and psychic element eventually grew into a separate agency, and Detroit Tarot Company was born. Through developing relationships with many Detroit-based event planners, we soon became the first choice for all things “tarot” in and around Detroit, providing services for private parties, community events, and everything in between.
Both agencies thrived until 2020 when the global pandemic shut down all events for months, completely devastating the event industry. Facing a difficult and uncertain future, Alexandria and Andrew decided to take a risk and open a brick-and-mortar store in June 2020. Despite the pandemic, a challenging location, and a small retail space, our store was able to succeed, and after only a few months we had outgrown our space. We had the incredible fortune to find a beautiful building on Main Street in downtown Rochester. Less than a year after beginning our retail journey, we packed our things and moved to Main Street in March 2021. Our new space allowed us to expand our products and services, including bringing in local readers, artists, and hosting classes and events.
We were overwhelmed by the positive feedback and warm welcome from the community. It was with this support that in the summer of 2022 we were able to further expand by opening a wholesale warehouse and developing our unique line of metaphysical products to be offered in store and to be introduced to new markets nationwide. As our company has continued to expand, we felt that it was important for our storefront name to reflect our goal of bringing accessible, high-quality metaphysical services and products to every downtown, and Downtown Tarot Company does exactly that.
As Downtown Tarot Company grows, so does our incredible community. We hope to continue to form new connections every day and to always strive to empower anyone who needs support and inspiration.
What You Can Find at Downtown Tarot
At Downtown Tarot we provide a variety of tools for people to explore and deepen their spiritual practice. During a visit to our store, you can find crystals of all shapes and sizes, tarot and oracle decks, books, candles, herbs, incense, jewelry, stickers, and everything you need to create your own altar, crystal grids, and spell jars. We are also able to offer new lines of metaphysical products thanks to our wholesale warehouse, that will be available first in our downtown Rochester retail store. We recently launched our first DTC-branded products, the Astrologia and Crystallo candle collections. The Astrologia Collection is a coconut soy wax blend curated with crystals and herbs to strengthen the unique qualities of each zodiac sign. The Crystallo Collection draws inspiration from crystals, each candle featuring different scents, crystal chips, and herbs to enhance the energy you are looking to work with. We have many other products currently in production, including additional candle lines, crystal kits, spell jars, and so much more.
In addition to our in-store products, we also offer a variety of services, including psychic readings, astrology, reiki, and classes. Readers can also be reserved for private parties and community events. We are also excited to be the first company in Michigan to offer digital Aura Photography for individuals, couples, and pets!
For those seeking a collaborative, hands-on learning experience, we host in-store classes each month. Classes cover many topics and range from introductory to advanced levels. Taught by our wonderful team of readers, the classes offer a close-knit, supportive environment where you can learn alongside those with similar interests in metaphysical topics.
